Experience
Paul is a highly-regarded property lawyer with more than 25 years of experience in property and business transactions. He acts on large-scale industrial, commercial and residential subdivisions, sales, purchases, property developments, acquisitions and leasing transactions for numerous high net-worth clients. Paul's in-depth knowledge of this sector ensures that our clients are provided with industry-specific, tailored legal advice.
Paul also advises clients on the incorporation, structure, fundraising and internal management of private and public companies, trusts and incorporated bodies.
As the lead lawyer of our liquor licensing practice, Paul has acted for corporate and private clients involved in the wine industry - growers, producers, winemakers, importers and distributors in all aspects of the establishment and conduct of wine businesses, including the creation and licensing of their intellectual property rights. As an active member of the wine industry, Paul's hands-on experience provides practically based legal expertise.
Career highlights
- Acted in the sale of a Perth hotel, (which is part of an international chain) worth in excess of $50 million. The scope of work included a corporate restructure and transfer of liquor licence.
- Acted in the sale of a large Goldfields mine, including underground mine workings and above-ground interests worth $70 million. The mine had complex access arrangements with multiple holders.
- Acted in the acquisition of landmark country property, including the leasing of retail and commercial space and sale contracts associated with the property worth $10 million.
- Acted in the acquisition, re-zoning and sale of land worth $4 million. The transaction included negotiations with the local council in relation to development works and the alignment and reconstruction of roads.
- Advising clients whose assets totalled in excess of $20 million, on estate planning matters including their structure of affairs and issues of control upon death. The estate required ASIC and ASX considerations due to the client being a major shareholder in a public company and holding assets through multiple entities.
- Acted for a high-profile jewellery producer on intellectual property rights in relation to the grant of international distribution rights.
- Served as the managing partner of Talbot Olivier from 1993-1999 and 2001-2008.
- Appointed as a Notary Public in 2008.

Presentations/publications: Paul is regularly involved in presenting seminars on all aspects of contractual and corporate arrangements. He has also tutored for the University of Western Australia in the 'Commercial Practice, Conveyancing and Drafting' course.
