Experience 

Paul is the lead principal within the insurance and mining and resources practice groups. He is a key figure within the firm, and has practised law at Talbot Olivier for over 40 years. 

In his lifetime of experience, Paul has developed a profound understanding of insurance law, advising local and national insurers, self-insurers, institutional clients and government departments.  Paul gives advice on all aspects of insurance law, with particular emphasis on business and accident insurance, corporate, commercial, and personal injuries, general property insurance claims, medical negligence, motor vehicle personal insurance claims and professional indemnity. 

Paul also advises on all key areas of mining, energy and resources, encompassing liability issues, regulatory issues, tenders and contractual agreements, operations, arbitration and dispute resolution, and mine safety. 

Career highlights 

  • Successfully represented a client who lost a limb in a boating accident, obtaining a substantial settlement for damages.
  • Advising a major insurance providers on negligence claims brought against them.
  • Acting as counsel, successfully representing numerous defendants against claims brought against them for damages.
  • Successfully represented a disgruntled investor in Federal Court proceedings who was seeking damages against his former investment adviser as a result of misleading and deceptive conduct.
  • Successfully represented the defendant in Western Australia's last case of breach of promise to marry, in which the claim was dismissed.
