Experience 

Maree's 18 years of experience in insurance, coupled with her background in the health industry, provides valuable insights and solutions to our insurance clients. She has acted for individuals, employers, insurers, self-insurers and government bodies advising on motor vehicle accidents, professional indemnity, workers compensation and criminal injury compensation claims. She also provides support with regards to professional indemnity and life insurance matters. 

Maree was the first in-house counsel of the nurses Board of Western Australia. She was principally involved in professional standards and was a member of the Complaints Committee and Professional Standards Committee. She regularly appeared for the Board in the State Administrative Tribunal in the vocational stream. She investigated complaints and was also involved in the informal disciplinary processes of the Board.

Career highlights 

• Acted for an insurer in researching  a complex technical medical matter in a large personal injuries claim.
• Acted for the liquidator against investor plaintiffs in a commercial litigation matter, where the plaintiffs claimed that they did not have  properly-executed security over land.
• Acted for an insurer client of an iconic Australian sport iconic institution in defamation proceedings against one of its employees.
• Acted for an insurer client in a work-related accident involving a substantial damages claim.
• Successfully acted in a prominent insurance claim for an individual against the insurer in respect to a motor vehicle accident. The matter proceeded to trial and was appealed on the issue of discounting contingencies. Settled some years ago, the case is cited and referred to from time to time.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Jurisprudence, General Nursing and Children's Nursing.                                               

Memberships: Law Society of Western Australia, Legal practitioner member of the Dental Board of Western Australia, Network advisory panel member of Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia.
