Experience
Nathan has vast experience in insurance law having practised for over 10 years in both Western Australia and the United Kingdom. He advises and represents insurers, individuals and employers on general liability, professional indemnity and personal injury claims and he drafts legal opinions on liability and quantum disputes arising from motor vehicle accidents and Risk Cover claims. Nathan has also acted for insurers in various motor fraud cases including staged/contrived accidents, bogus passenger claims, ghost vehicles and fraudulent vehicle damage claims.
Career highlights
- Acted for an insurer in an unusual case where the plaintiff claimed injury from a motor vehicle accident with an untraced vehicle and driver. The case was dismissed.
- Successfully represented a claimant who was involved in a motor vehicle accident caused by a drunk driver. The client sustained serious injury, is unable to work and requires ongoing care.
- Successfully acted for a plaintiff who was hit by a drunk driver whilst riding his bicycle. The client sustained serious brain injuries and requires ongoing life care. The outcome was a multi-million dollar settlement.
- Represented an insurer in a liability matter where the claimant sustained a broken neck following a motor vehicle collision between the claimant's vehicle and a horse that had escaped from its paddock. The trial determined that the horse's owner was liable for damages under the Animals Act.
Admitted to practice: 2000 in England and Wales, 2008 in Western Australia.
Qualifications: Legum Baccalaureus with Honours, Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
Memberships: Law Society of Western Australia, Australian Insurance Lawyers Association.
Publications/presentations: Nathan regularly submits articles on insurance matters, and has provided external training for insurance providers.
